Description

A mooring buoy is a floating device used to secure vessels in place without the need to drop an anchor. Positioned in harbors, marinas, and designated anchorage areas, it provides a safe and convenient way for boats to remain stationary while protecting the seabed from anchor damage.

A typical mooring buoy consists of a buoyant body, a strong chain or rope, and a heavy anchor block on the seabed. Vessels attach to the buoy via a pickup line or ring on top. The buoy is usually brightly colored-often white with a blue stripe-making it easy to spot on the water.

Mooring buoys serve multiple purposes: they help organize marine traffic, protect sensitive marine habitats like coral reefs, and provide a secure point for temporary or long-term mooring. They are widely used by recreational boaters, fishing vessels, and even large ships in specific mooring fields.
